Michael Campbell

President

I joined the Montego Bay Comets Athletics Club in February 1979, and has been an active member of the organization since. During these 42 years, I have served the club in various capacities, without any regrets.

In competition, I have represented the club in the 200m and 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays. I’ve also represented as Coach and Team Manager.

I served as Statistician wherein I was in charge of the record keeping for the organization. I also served as Secretary, Vice Chairman and Financial Secretary. I was elected president of the Comets Club International in February 2020, and again in February 2021, and delighted at the opportunity to continue to serve, even from a distance, thanks to being able to meet via remote access.

It is truly an honor to be a member of this noble organization.

Andrene Thomas-Brutus

Membership Chair/Asst. Secretary

Toronto, Canada

I first joined the Montego Bay ‘Comets’ Athletics Club in 1988. While there, I ran in the short sprints – 200m,400m and the relays for school, club and parish.

I later went on to serve as the Club’s Secretary.

In 2000, I received a Track Scholarship to Lindenwood University in Missouri, USA, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication.

Back then, growing up as a teenager in the rough & tumble, innercity community of Glendevon, just outside Montego Bay, the club provided something of a safe haven for me.

Training and competing helped my self-confidence and to be trusting of others, in the context of a team player. All traits that guided me throughout my college years and into the work force today. It also helped me to gain and preserve long-term friendships.

It is my pleasure to a part of this amazing club that has and continues to impact so many aspects of my life through education and sports.

Thank you, ‘Comets’.
